How deep is the abyss
that is engulfing us all?
Placing fear in our hearts.
Watching us fall.
How deep is the abyss
that channels the ocean?
Guiding us like a river
with fluid motions.
How deep is the abyss
that spews out mountains?
New lands gush forth like geysers,
not like fountains.
How deep is the abyss
that cuts through the Earth?
Making her bleed,
debating her worth.
How deep is the abyss
that pretends to be whole?
Take one false step
and it will swallow your soul.

Author’s note: This is one of my earliest poems, back when most of my poems rhymed. I found it on my computer while searching through old files.
