Poem: “This Is My Story”

This is my story.
The story I’ll write for myself.
My story is different from my father’s:
his story was burned,
and then the ashes drowned.
My story is different than my mother’s:
she was cut with scissors
and left with a blanket of snow.

This is my story.
Different from my mother’s and my father’s.
My story is not the one written for me
by other hands,
or weaved in Fate’s loom.
My story is my journal,
my journey through the cosmos,
licking stars and slinging comets.

This story of mine
cannot be told until completed.
My story isn’t broken into chapters;
there are no episodes or pages.
My story can only be read
when I swim in the lake
of human consciousness
and I’m freed into the river of melted skin.

Like the way you framed the poem by comparing parents story wtih yours.
